Roof
is my
name
Roof is my name, I
can put one right over you,
give you
protection and shelter.
Don’t hit me when
you’re excited,
although I like to
be high
up in peace,
unmolested, well aired, and majestic!
I’m connected to
walls but I’m always above them,
my outsides
exposed to the world. I bear the burden
of rain, hail, and
snow,
ferocious cold
winds and burning hot suns,
I get crapped on
by birds, possums, and rats,
but I cop everything
like a Stoic.
Sometimes I leak,
which reminds me
that I’m far from immortal,
I can also be
destroyed by disasters.
Humans can burn
me, typhoons and hurricanes
can lift me clean
off my body, my walls,
but thankfully
that doesn’t happen too often.
When it does, the
reverse lottery has been won
and I’m lost,
broken and/or disintegrated,
but maybe my
pieces will join to make something new?
But enough
melancholy,
I’m proud and I’m
strong,
Roof is my name,
Look Up, I Am With
You
